Privacy policy
How we use the details you give us through this website, and the little that the website records on its own.
This policy is for the website at www.basildoncts.co.uk. It is run by Basildon Community Transport Services (BCTS), registered charity 1146853. BCTS is the "data controller", which means we are responsible for the details this website collects about you.
The office team at BCTS looks after your data. You can contact them using the details at the end of this page.
We keep this short, because the website collects very little.
The details you send us through a form
The website has two forms: the enquiry form on the Contact page and the volunteer form on the Volunteering page. When you send one, we collect:
your name
your phone number or email address, or both, so we can reply
what your enquiry is about and the message you type
on the volunteer form: where you live, what you would like to help with, whether you hold a driving licence, and when you are available
We use these details to reply to you and to arrange the service you asked about. We do not use them for anything else, and we never pass them to anyone outside BCTS.
Before you send a form you tick a box saying you are happy for us to use your details to reply. That is our legal basis for using them.
Your message is sent by email to our office and is also kept on the website, where only our staff can see it. The website deletes every message after 90 days. If we need to keep your details longer, for example because you have become a member or a volunteer, we keep them in our own records under our usual rules.
Checking that you are a person
To stop automatic programs filling in our forms, the form page uses a check called Cloudflare Turnstile. It works in the background and you will not usually see anything. To do its job it sends some technical details about your browser to Cloudflare, a company in the United States that BCTS uses under its standard terms. Cloudflare does not use these details to identify you or to advertise to you. If your browser has JavaScript switched off, the form still works and the check is simply skipped.
What the website records on its own
Pages that do not exist. If you ask for a page that is not there, you see a "page not found" message, and the website makes a note of the address you asked for, your internet (IP) address and the name of your browser. We use this to find and fix broken links. Only our administrators can see this list, and each note is deleted after one month.
Visitor numbers. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count how many people visit and which pages they read. It does not use cookies, it does not record who you are, and it does not follow you to other websites.
Cookies
Most pages of this website set no cookies at all. The two pages with a form set one small cookie so the form can be sent safely; it lasts for two hours at most and holds nothing about you. If you close the notice bar at the top of a page, your browser remembers that until you close it, but that is not a cookie and it never leaves your computer. Our staff who log in to update the website get a login cookie; visitors do not.
Because we use no cookies for advertising or tracking, there is no cookie banner to click.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to other websites, such as Facebook, X, Google Maps and Essex County Council. Those websites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them.
