Basildon Community Transport Services Ltd is a registered charity (number 1146853) based at the George Hurd Centre on Audley Way, Basildon. We serve the whole of the Basildon borough: Basildon, Billericay and Wickford.

Our history

We have been running our services for the borough for over twenty years. We were formerly known as BDVC, Basildon District Volunteer Carers.

What we do

  • Community transport: wheelchair-accessible minibuses and volunteer cars for health appointments, shopping, social events and day centres

  • Tonic, our toenail cutting service in people's own homes

  • Wheelchair hire for residents of the Basildon area

  • MIDAS training for minibus drivers

Our vision

To run a high-quality transport service that matches what the community needs, improves the quality of life of Basildon residents, and is sustainable and socially inclusive. We want to improve access to health, education, social and economic opportunities for everyone, and to reduce reliance on cars by giving people a real alternative.

Our values

  • Value for money: using what we have effectively and efficiently, while aiming for the highest possible standards.

  • Good employment practice: valuing our staff and volunteers and what we achieve together, working with our partners, and respecting the needs, views and contributions of everyone in our diverse community.

  • Service excellence: a sustainable organisation that sets high standards, builds on the strengths of its staff and volunteers, and responds to the needs of its clients.

What we aim to achieve for the people we help

  • Staying independent and living longer in their own homes

  • Feeling less isolated

  • More confidence and self-esteem

  • Taking part in local community life

  • Better well-being through a wider choice of activities

  • Being able to shop for good-value, healthy food and other necessities

  • Keeping up positive social and family relationships
